The Measurement Map® Process

Building a Measurement Map® is a cross-functional, creative, group effort.  The simple act of bringing the various stakeholders together to talk about the expected outcomes of a “people initiative” creates a powerful message of commitment – both of HR and Learning team and of the business operations people.  After all, the business units are pulling their people off regular work to participate in the initiative.  Surely they expect some change in performance as a result of that investment!

The Stakeholder Meeting involves three key elements:

Brainstorming

  • The business problem
  • The proposed solution
  • The intended audience
  • Hypotheses about the solution
  • Evidence of success

Mapping

  • Creating a credible causal chain of evidence
  • Telling the story from left to right and right to left

Planning

  • Data sources
  • Time parameters
  • Analysis methods

By engaging our business partners in this process, there has been a huge shift in how they think about ‘training’ and the value of appropriate, instructionally sound solutions.
