The idea of mapping out directions, flows and relationships is not new. From the earliest Babylonian cartography to Google Maps, travelers have recognized the value of maps in aiding them in getting from Point A to Point B. A map communicates a lot of complex information in a single image, an image that is understood by all who see it.
The Measurement Map®, like the cartographer’s map, is intentionally straightforward. Its goal is to clearly communicate the logical relationships between the human capital investments and an organization’s strategic goals. In order to establish causality and to analyze the impact, those links must be measurable. To achieve this, the Map has four logically connected sections: the Investment, Leading Indicators, Business Results (or lagging indicators, and Strategic Goals.
